Did I mention that there is conference swag every year? Ken Ward and I are looking at some of the different swag options today for this year’s event.

Our Software Engineer (and all around talented individual) Khamille created this video of our swag bag from 2018.

Conference Agenda Posted!

Hello School Planners!

We have been hard at work to create an agenda full of classes based on your feedback! Through surveys from the 2018 event, phone conversations, email, and in-person brainstorming sessions we have been talking with you about what you would like to see in 2019. The agenda may continue to change slightly as we approach the event.

We are really getting excited for the 2019 event! See you in June!

Click on the different days below to see the agenda for that day.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope you all had an excellent winter break and settling back in at work.

Planning for this year’s School Planners Conference is well under way! Right now, I am hard at work on creating the agenda. We have added an additional room for breakouts this year so there will be a lot more options than in the past.

One way we are going to make sure you get to experience everything the conference has to offer is to have several slots open on Friday for “Back by Popular Demand” sessions. During these times we will offer repeats of sessions from earlier in the week. During the week you will be able to vote on sessions you would like to see repeated. Maybe you missed it because you were in the Doctor’s office or may you just want to hear it again. Whatever the reason YOU will get to decide what content we repeat.

Don’t forget to register soon: The Early Bird deadline in February 28th!

And if you have already registered, don’t forget to book your hotel room! Space is limited, and we are seeing record enrollment already! You can book your hotel room HERE.

2019, Here we come!

Welcome to the planning blog for the School Planners Conference! Check back here often for updates on what is to come at the 2019 School Planners Conference!

We have been hard at work planning for the 2019 conference ever since the end of the 2018 conference. The planning process started with the session surveys our attendees completed during the conference. Then, we collected feedback about the event as a whole. The staff at Davis Demographics spent a lot of time reading and listening to your feedback and we hope you will see a lot of your suggestions in the 2019 events.

As you have probably seen by now, we are going to be in San Diego for 2019! We are very excited about this venue and all the fun opportunities in San Diego to go along with the exceptional learning and networking opportunities at the conference itself.

Check back here often to get updates on the planning process and what is happening at the event!

ArcGIS Pro Boot Camp

ArcGIS Pro

ESRI’s ArcMap has been the standard GIS software used across the world for almost two decades. Think of all the technological changes in the world in that time. A new GIS product was needed and inevitable for use on modern computers and for internet connectivity. In January 2015, ESRI released its next-generation GIS product: ArcGIS Pro. While ESRI has made it clear that they will continue bug fixes for several more years, ESRI is clear that ArcGIS Pro is a replacement to ArcMap.

Pro is a 64-bit application that takes advantage of the computing power on today’s devices. It also has a new “ribbon style” menu system to look like the Microsoft Office application most of us use on a daily basis. In short: It’s fast and looks different.

Nearly all of the functionality ArcMap users are accustomed to seeing is now available in Pro…but where are the button, tools, and menus we need? Has geocoding changed in the internet age? What is a Project? What new features are available? These are the questions that will be addressed in the ArcGIS Pro Boot Camp.

This 2-day intensive training is meant for users who are familiar with ArcMap and want to learn how to translate what they know to Pro. By the end of boot camp, you will be ready to use Pro and apply it’s exciting new features to your planning work and data analysis.

To get the most out of your time in San Diego, we encourage you to attend BOTH events! The 2-day pre-conference Boot Camp and the School Planners Conference. Boot camp teaches you how to use your tools but the conference teaches you why we use them.

We aim for a 4:1 ratio of instructors to Students in the GIS Boot Camps to ensure you have the attention and resources to be successful. Space is limited so REGISTER NOW!

School Planners Conference

The School Planners Conference, hosted by Davis Demographics, is the only place where school planners from across the country come together to learn and network.

The 2019 School Planners Conference is being held from June 26-28, 2019 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in San Diego, California. In addition to the 2 1/2 day conference, we are offering two different “boot camp” trainings on June 24-25, 2019 for planners who need to sharpen their GIS skills.

Here is what to expect if you have never been to the School Planners Conference in the past:

Watch this short recap of the 17th Annual School Planners Conference.

We believe that planning is best done based on geography. More simply: Where a student lives is a better basis for planning than what school a student is enrolled in. To understand a school district’s data geographically we use geographic information systems (GIS) software. This allows us find, analyze, and learn from patterns in the school district.

ESRI is the maker of ArcGIS, the standard GIS software product used worldwide in all industries and sectors. Davis Demographics has been a business partner with ESRI since the mid-1980s and has built software extensions for ArcGIS specifically to assist school districts in their planning called SchoolSite.

Our conference is for school planners, no matter how your planning is done currently. Whether you use GIS, SchoolSite, spreadsheets, or nothing at all this conference is for you. The thread through the whole week is planning. GIS and SchoolSite will appear frequently through the agenda but other planning topics are covered and there are planners that come every year who are not using GIS or Davis Demographics software. We work hard to ensure that all planners will find the conference to be beneficial.

We invite you to join your fellow school planners in San Diego in June 2019. If you have further questions about the event, please contact Jared Nelson at jnelson@davisdemographics.com or 888.337.4471 x232.
